Is this woman so filled with loathing towards this mayor and this casino that she’s willing to do irreparable harm to the city she claims to love? Appears the answer is a solid “yes” and with it she becomes the most hypocritical, harmful, disruptive person this town has ever seen. It's sad really....a lonely person with nothing better to do, plenty of money to spend, head filled with arrogance motivated by political ambitions and political payback. Yes, every town has one (or several) of these folks. They are generally eccentric folk, usually well-off financially, unemployed with basically nothing to offer but being a thorn in everyone's side usually at the expense of their own reputation. Unfortunately for folks like this, they are totally unaware of the mockery they’ve become locally because they live in a bubble of like-minded people who rarely venture outside their social realm completely unaware of their actions consequences and immersed in their own self importance. They can't relate at all to working class people or the average Joe generally looking down and talking down to such folks. The thought of mingling with blue collar types repulses them. They are above it and keep their noses held high. The idea of another filthy casino paying decent wages to blue collar types is heresy, the downfall of an old Southern City filled with a handful of folks who still dream of the days of social classes. They’ve become what in their youth they once despised, elitist. They can’t help it because they really are smarter than everyone else. I can tell you that neither this person nor this group represents me or the majority of Natchez. They represent a small powerful group of well financed Natchezians who, without money, would be nothing more than an irritable cold that eventually goes away. As it stands, they’ve become a flu and are trying desperately to put Natchez in the infirmary indefinitely.

The City of Natchez has several of these folks but this one has taken arrogance to new heights. I mean, who in the world has the time on their hands and the fortune to be able to hire their own personal attorney to fight a city over some unfounded cause of “transparency in city government.” Of course we are talking about the casino and those not in favor of it. I’ve said it before; this isn’t about transparency, open meetings laws, etc. This is about politics and the fact these folks, this lady, DOES NOT WANT THE CASINO IN NATCHEZ. If I can see straight through this (as does most of Natchez) why can’t the Natchez Democrat? Are they part of the problem? I can’t help but think they are at this point. They’ve helped perpetuate the idea that something was done wrong at City Hall, WITH ZERO PROOF other than some “squeaky wheels” that have “cried wolf” a dozen or so times over the last two decades. These people are against any sort of progress in downtown Natchez and come together every time something like this happens. So why does the Natchez Democrat take this small group seriously and hand them an open invitation for a soapbox at every turn? Only one conclusion comes to mind and I don’t have to spell it out here for you.

I’ve disagreed with the Natchez Democrat on many occasions but have always respected the staff and the job they’ve set out to do. I know in a small town (or any town) you can’t please everyone and you’ll always make folks mad. But the obsession the Natchez Democrat seems to have with these folks is repulsive and is doing considerable harm to our city when it comes to industrial/business prospects. This lady (and her minions) has single handedly frightened our elected officials to the point that they are afraid to act on anything with the concern they could be sued, she has struck fear in the wallets of potential industrial prospects with the fear that their financials would be forced to be revealed and have unbelievably duped certain elected officials into thinking they represent the majority.

I can’t tell you how often I’ve heard parents discuss the issue of their children going to college and moving away because Natchez just simply doesn’t have anything to offer. Uh, hello...it's because of nonsense like this that we continue to lose investments in our town thus our children can't move back. We’ve lost multiple industries over the last decade (applauded by this vocal little group), we’ve lost approximately 5,000 people since the 2000 census, and we’ve lost potentially millions of dollars in tax revenue as a result of both. People have said since the industrial closings that Natchez just seems to keep going. Well we haven’t been “going.” Like most of the country we’ve been mired in debt unable to properly pay bills on a monthly basis because of the loss of a significant percentage of our tax base over the years. It’s finally caught up with us coupled with a terrible economy. This has happened even though the Mayor has actually made considerable cuts to employment levels throughout the city, cuts to all budgets and has cut his very own salary. The last item being virtually unheard of, yet folks say it’s not enough.

Guess what, we could remedy much of this situation with this casino development alone. No, it won’t save Natchez but it would help considerably. I can’t imagine that in such a dismal economy coupled with the dying of small towns throughout the country that anyone would turn down a $45 million investment offering upwards of 300 jobs in a town that has lost 25% of its population in ten years. It would make more sense that folks would be in an uproar at the potential of losing a $45 million project than gaining one. This entire issue is turned on its head because of politics and our local newspaper is standing by cowardly, occasionally throwing gas on the fire to sell some papers and get some internet views. With the dismal national financial climate coupled with the disappearance of the small town, one would think this mayor would coast to victory this spring riding a wave of multiple industry announcements and a $45 million dollar casino project. Because of a local group’s arrogance and political malice, quite the opposite is happening and the only real victim is the City of Natchez.

Victory to the Vocal Minority!!!!!

I haven’t written in quite some time…busy busy busy. But after last nights specially called Natchez Board meeting (in which only the vocal minority was aware of) I can’t help but find myself a bit agitated at our local politics. If you think it was politics that somehow lured the casino to Natchez and is continuing to give the casino support, then you wouldn’t believe the politics involved in trying to kill it.

A couple of weeks ago the Natchez Democrat had an editorial concerning the casino development and how it would be a serious upcoming campaign issue. It was an odd story at an odd time. Just two or three years ago everyone was looking forward to the casino, most not even believing it would ever come to fruition…pie in the sky. Then folks got restless, tired of hearing about it….much like the Rentech project and wanted to move on. This is flawed thinking to the extreme. The adults in our town are now a parody of what our kids have become in this current society, a “what have you done for me lately,” “got to have it now” society. It’s not realistic when it comes to multimillion dollar projects in a very poor economy. What folks can’t seem to remember or they just don’t understand is that the economy bottomed out, loans were virtually impossible to come by. I’m convinced that had the economy not gone south, we’d have not only the Roth Hill Casino but a third casino below the old Ramada. The City of Natchez might be rolling in greenbacks instead of taking out loans every month much like the rest of the country. To me, it’s a damn miracle that we have a second casino in construction given the state of the local and national economy. A business that will bring jobs and money to our little town utilizing a piece of property that nobody cared about or used until something they disapproved of came calling. This argument that it’s our only riverfront property is absolutely false and the most ridiculous argument I’ve heard. It’s nothing but a facade to cover up the real reason: It’s a hugely successful project that the current mayor believed in from day one. He staked everything on it (and yes, I believe for the betterment of Natchez) while everyone else became parroting naysayers. (another issue in Natchez)

So, back to the Natchez Democrat claiming that the lone issue in the upcoming city elections will be the casino. Really?? You mean other issues won’t be addressed such as the other multiple industries that have made huge recent announcements to locate to our community and add hundreds of jobs despite the national economy? Not the reduction of debt and employees at city hall that were bloated during the previous administration (of who is running again)? Not the elephant in the room….the arrest of a certain candidate on the coast of which was a complete embarrassment to our state and town? I can't even begin to understand why they are attempting to make the successful casino addition a negative issue? This is beyond bizarre.

As for the meeting last night…..and yes, the vocal minority. I think it sets a terrible precedent that the board would vote without even listening to any attorneys or discuss the issue at hand. That is the most extreme example of being close minded and grandstanding to the crowd in the room. For the record, I don’t think the Natchez Democrat had any ill intent stirring things up. Obviously there were some serious concerns when the casino developers came back to the city with these contract amendments. But what did the Natchez Democrat or these folks laughing in the Board Room think the Board would do, sign off on it without getting any advice? Really?? That’s absurd. Everyone jumped the gun on this and made it an issue, well, before it became an actual issue. The Casino presented the Board with contract amendments and the vocal minority immediately blamed the City and the Mayor. Why would someone do this unless they are trying to manipulate the overall attitude towards the Board or Mayor or the Casino? What did the Board or Mayor do wrong? Nothing. They sought legal counsel, not because the Natchez Democrat told them to or some yahoo bought a half page ad in the paper, but because it was the right thing to do. It’s really not that complicated, the Casino is a business and is looking out for the best interest of their business as is the City of Natchez….hence the reason there could be some middle ground here, some negotiations and at the very least some discussion. But no. Last night the Board Meeting became exactly the opposite of what an elected Board should be, an open forum of ideas and communication. There was zero last night, only grandstanding for the folks in the room.

It wouldn’t take a genius to look around that room and think to themselves…oh, these folks again. Just look at the folks in the photo relating to the story in the Natchez Democrat, that says it all. All of which aligned themselves against this administration the first time he was elected. It’s so evidently transparent. Read the story, there was laughing in the room. Unbelievably childish. Again, if you don’t understand what this is really about (an upcoming election) then I can’t help you. I’ll only add that if I were an elected official, I’d be cautious about who I listened to in that room last night. They are the vocal minority, not the majority. The politics behind this entire debacle is a bad sign for the future of Natchez. Lord knows there are plenty of things to criticize the City of Natchez for but this is far from one of them. Again, last night was a bad night for the City of Natchez in many ways and the audience (vocal minority) in that Board room last night are to blame for this as are any elected officials who caved to their political demands. We can all debate the actions of the mayor (and Board) on several issues but he is to blame for nothing last night, all he wanted to do was keep open communications. Last night it was shut in his face and folks laughed about it out loud. A sad night indeed and a red flag to any prospective industry interested in Natchez.

The Natchez Sun.....needs to set

When I first heard of the <place w:st="on"><city w:st="on">Natchez</city></place> Sun I thought to myself, good, competition makes products better. Being a conservative myself, I enjoyed reading the conservative syndicated columnists.... O'Reilly, Coulter, Malkin, Etc. Unfortunately that paper goes straight to the garbage upon picking it off the driveway. I think I was initially naïve concerning the stories that Rinaldi authored about <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Natchez</place></city>. At one time I even found them humorous. But those days are long gone….bye bye….into the trash.

This guy has become an arrogant anomaly. I’m not even sure what he’s trying to accomplish any more nor do I think he even cares. He’s gotten into a comfortable routine of spewing his nonfactual wreckless commentary unopposed and without debate. He has the same usual advertisers who are either oblivious to what’s going on or are his personal friends. Peter gets his inside scoop, on occasion, from a couple of his friendly elected officials. This has often caused irreparable damage to the reputation of <place w:st="on"><city w:st="on">Natchez</city></place> and hindered (if not outright halted) prospective economic development. This is simply unacceptable.

This man writes his opinion, that’s it. People take this as fact. It’s not…plain and simple. NEVER does this guy interview anyone nor does he EVER show up at any Board meetings. His paper is a gossip paper, a tabloid and nothing more. If the conservative authors I mentioned above had any idea of the nonsensical chatter that was published in his rag they’d probably opt out of it. That’ll never happen because they’ll never read nor understand its content in regards to <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Natchez</place></city>. He essentially makes libel accusations towards some of our most important citizens and elected officials and he’s never challenged. He’s done this for years and continues to get away with it. Why?

It seems people in <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Natchez</place></city> are one of two things, negative or positive. This guy is 100% negative and it’s a bad reflection on <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Natchez</place></city> considering this fire kindling is still around. People are obviously believing his bull, reading his rag and repeating it. The Natchez Democrat has taken notice as they have become increasingly negative towards our officials. I guess it rubbed off. It’s sad really.

I’ve always enjoyed the Natchez Democrat and to a certain extent I still do but has anyone noticed how preachy it’s become lately. They’ve become what I despise in The Natchez Sun, an arrogant all knowing zealot. Every time I pick up The Democrat I’m insulted. They address us citizens of <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Natchez</place></city> as if we are idiots. We don’t know how to elect officials as we only elect our friends, we don’t know how to clean the city, we don’t know this, we don’t know that…and here’s how you’re supposed to fix it because the elected officials you so idiotically vote for can’t do it for you. This seems to be their attitude. What about the utterly ridiculous “comment” section of the online edition of the paper? I’ve written about these “enlightened ones” in another column. What purpose does this feature serve??? Talk about idiots. I just want to post under every comment…”get a job, get a job, get a job.” These constant negative comments never stop, they are endless. If you were an outsider reading those comments you’d probably have a sour outlook of <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Natchez</place></city>.

I could write an entire article on the happenings of <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Natchez</place></city> and despite popular belief, things have actually gotten considerably better over the last two or three years. That’s right….less debt…more construction…better streets. Yes, these things are happening. Has anyone seen the trails project at the bluff??? Best thing to happen to <place w:st="on"><city w:st="on">Natchez</city></place> since the Bluff Stabilization project. Stunning.

Reading the opinion of some guy you don’t know without the facts is dangerous and now the Natchez Democrat is jumping on board with that philosophy in their opinion sections. The <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Natchez</place></city> Sun needs to set…and the Natchez Democrat needs to get back on track and out of the realm of trying to run a city.

The media, nothing suprises me these days.......

Wow, the slander and libel continues towards the Tea Party Movement and it appears to be getting worse. Hicks, rednecks, racists, idiots....comparing to the KKK???? Where do these journalists come up with this stuff. There were hundreds of documented anti-war posters depicting an assassignated George Bush at liberal rallies during his administration and constant death threats that the MSM NEVER REPORTED. This same media continues to report unsubstantiated and unconfirmed slurs and accusations coming from the Tea Party Movement. It's quite unbelievable. A democrat claims to be a victim of a racial slur with no proof and just like that......headline news.

I know, there are already hundreds of right wing blogs and radio shows constantly bitching about this...but I can't sit here and continue reading this crap without commenting even if it does appear redundant. The absolute hatred (the real "hide under your bed" kind) that was spewed from the left was an unbelievably regular occurance that never made news, at least, not like the imaginary hatred being reported on the Tea Party. Seriously, even if one person threw out a racial slur, that would hardly qualify as a defination of the entire movement. Yet anyone who witnessed an anti war rally, via the web or in person, knows exactly what hate really is. There was some scary stuff toted around at those rallies. Here is a link to just a few of the lovely signs that Left Wing Socialists (new Democrats) can come up with....nice. http://www.binscorner.com/pages/d/death-threats-against-bush-at-protests-i.html

But what was reported back then??? Only that "thousands rallied against the war." That was basically it. But when it comes to the Tea Party movement.....racist slurs is what's reported. Unbelievably here is a CNN story posted today basically debunking the left wing myth of the Tea Party. Yeah, CNN. I can't believe it either. She even states they are the only news organization traveling along right now. Keep in mind though, this is one positive story in the midst of hundreds of negative stories.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/04/07/tea.party.rallies/?hpt=Sbin

I don't know, maybe they are trying to make amends after their pathetic Susan Roesgen story last year in which she was handpicking extreme examples and interviewing them trying to make the entire movement look bad. Wow, did that blow up in her face. Let's take a trip down memory lane....typical arrogant, sneering lefty......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGsTAMSOW94&feature=related This is a prime example of why the news media continues to take a slide in viewership and revenue. Thank God for the internet and alternative sources of news. Let's just hope the movement continues strong through November because we are still finding out crazy information concerning this bill....such as this little jewel...... http://www.rollcall.com/news/44956-1.html?type=aggregate_friendly

And the winner is??????????????????????

Jeez, who knows at this point. I'm actually impressed that Democrats have passed a bill that Obama wanted since election. They had to sell their souls to pass it but passed it they did. In the face of criticism, defeat and ridicule, they passed it. I'm embarrassed to say that I actually had the audacity to believe this wouldn't pass based solely on the fact the American People didn't want it. Wrong was I. Luckily for Democrats (who know the people have short memories these days) the November elections are months away. It's already been reported by Rasmussan that 60% of news coverage over the last week was positive towards Obama.

We all know what this means, the media will now work in overdrive to shed nothing but positive light on this bill from now until election time, hell, it's already begun. I just read an AP story this morning about the passed legislation and the author actually referred to the bill as the one that will "touch the lives of millions." What??? Why would an AP writer phrase it that way? I doubt seriously he will refer to the increased taxes as the ones that will "burden the lives of our children." It's not so bad that 90% of the media leans left, it's that they can't seem to keep their ideology out of their reporting. But that's another story.

Democrats seem to think they can sway the public and can make amends before the November election. Republicans are hoping this passage is a watershed moment and Democrats will get the boot in November. Polls are showing this is true. I'm hear to say that November is a long way off and anything can happen. I do think the American people are forgiving but then again, I've never seen the American people this fired up.....EVER. It's quite unbelievable. Let's face it, there is some good and bad in this bill (my opinion is far more bad) and lots of debate left. I think what has upset the American folks more than anything with this bill is the fact that Democrats passed it against the will of the people. If EVER there was an example of not adhering to Lincoln's "government of the people, by the people, for the people" this is it. Then again, it's the people that elected this group of dimwits. I suppose they can only blame themselves.

Government Controlled Health Care.......it's soooooooo over.....

Seriously, I'm already done with this healthcare mess. This argument is over. Polls left and right are showing a consistant lack of the general publics support and instead of addressing the concerns of citizens, who are taking time out of their lives to ask tough questions, these Democrats are calling these folks names. Democrats seemed completely stunned and confused by the overwhelming backlash and are acting like incompetent juveniles, who are taking their ball and going home, with a complete lack of respect for these concerned voters. One Democrat even demonstrated her lack of compassion by answering her cell phone in the middle of a cancer patients question to her in one of these town hall meetings. Are you kidding me?

The worst part is that they are trying to persuade the media into believing these protests are staged. (I guess "persuade" is a silly word. It's more like they are emailing them and the media is running with the baseless statements) Staged??? Really?? As we speak, Nancy Pelosi's poll numbers are plummeting to ridiculous lows with liberal writer Camille Paglia of Salon even saying her head must roll. Harry Reid doesn't even have a Republican contender yet and still his polls numbers are showing he may lose next year. Obama's numbers have dropped below 50% and the public now says it is more likely to vote for Republicans over Democrats next election. Staged???? Really??? I hope Democrats continue to act like babies and not professionals in this great debate. It's helping Republicans and polls prove it.

Let's face it. The majority of Americans want less government control. Frankly I'm sick and tired of democrats saying, "you don't want poor kids to have access to healthcare??? You are heartless." First off, they do have access to healthcare. Second, it's not about not wanting folks access to health care. It's about not wanting the government to be involved. PERIOD. GOVERNMENT MAKES THINGS LESS EFFICIENT, MORE EXPENSIVE, LESS PRODUCTIVE with MORE BUREAUCRACY. Uh.......40% of my take home is plenty thank you.

Just how smart is Obama? Here's a link with Morgan Freeman's intro: https://www.imagepublishinginc.com/content/view/7/3/
Simply put, this will give a true sense of pride to some of you Mississippians who have strayed and have etched those words in stone, "I'm NEVER going back." I actually know more whites who feel this way than blacks. For blacks it appears mostly racial, for whites it appears mostly redneck. But reading Morgan Freeman's take on his return is quite refreshing, especially coming from a man of his age and race. Our own citizens have this notion we are stupid truck driving NASCAR fanatics (not that there's anything wrong with that). Problem is, we are also sheep to the media goliaths the same as other states. We've grown up believing what we see on tv. Yes, we also experience it but unless you've visited other states do you realize there is ignorance abound in all states. Get out more, ignorance is everywhere, it's fascinating. I'm not at all implying that truck driving NASCAR fans are igonorant, but because of some experiences and the media portrayals, even we Mississippians believe that. Hey, some are, but so are many Beamer driving doctors and lawyers.

I have plenty of educated friends who have made it a point to smother any sort of southern accent they may have had in order to sound smarter. It annoys me to no end. Using proper english or improving it is one thing, squelching your roots out of some media driven embarrassement is another thing entirely. There's nothing more comforting and appealing to me than hearing an educated woman discuss issues in her true southern accent. There's nothing more annoying and distracting to me than hearing an educated woman, born and raised in Mississippi, talk as if she is some transplant with a Midwest dialect and a hint of some ridiculous sounding English accent. Though not southern, Madonna comes to mind as well as Gwyneth Paltrow. Even with that opinion I have to admit that it's not all their fault. Because of the media's characterization of us, I have seen people from other parts of the country not take me seriously because of my accent. My only advice is to use that to your advantage. I love nothing more than to be underestimated. It can lead to many promising victories and dumbfounded folks.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Freeman's intro into this book. He reaffirms my belief that racism is and was far reaching well outside of Mississippi, only it was back handed. That's not to say that forthcoming racism is better than under the table racism, it's simply making the point that racism exists everywhere in this country in many other forms every bit as harmful. I appreciate his candor and wit. Basically, we have work to do but no more or no less than any other state. The difference is, Mississippi is home, it's unique, it's beautiful and quite frankly made up of some of the nicest people in the world.

While it is a coffee table style book with plenty of photos, it reaffirms a deep seeded underlying proudness for Mississippians while showing other States how BADASS we really are. This state has produced some of the best writers in American history (Welty, Faulkner, etc.), best musicians/entertainers (Elvis, B.B., etc.) best tv personalities (Oprah), actors (Freeman, etc.), sports figures (Favre, Payton, Rice) artists (Walter Anderson, etc.).....really.....the list goes on and on and on. I've left off some really famous folks. It's an impressive list of personalities. One that probably makes other states envious. It should. I assure you, if you run accross this book (and I hope you do) you'll find it mesmerizing, at least by coffee table standards.

The fools of the Natchez Democrat online comment section...

I actually like the Natchez Democrat newspaper. It serves it's purpose well. Of course, I don't agree with all their opinions, thank goodness. The little comment section under each story on the online edition is a story in itself. These nuckleheads (only a few use their actual names) comment daily on every story the Democrat publishes online. They are comical in that they are ridiculous. I can't help but wonder how educated some of these folks are. Even better, what the hell do they do on a daily basis that they have time to make fools of themselves regularly? Thankfully, these idiots don't represent the majority. Today, for instance, is an editorial concerning the county relocating a trailer near the new multi-million dollar overpass. It will be used for county maintenance purposes. Here is the link...http://www.natchezdemocrat.com/news/2009/apr/21/lets-find-another-spot-trailer/
Seriously, this may be about the dumbest idea I've heard of in this town in about 20 years. Seriously, locating a TRAILER right near a beautifully landscaped multi-million dollar bridge??? Why not just put one in front of Dunleith? Never mind this violates city code, it's freakin STUPID. Yet read the comments below the story. There are people who actually think it will be ok, as if you can dress up the trailer so nobody will notice. If they believe this, they are probably the same folks who actually think bottle trees and flamingos dress up their front yard. Please, leave that nonsense outside of town, preferably where tourists won't travel. People flock to Natchez for it's historic beauty and dressing up that eye sore overpass helped. Now we are wanting to take two steps back after taking ten steps forward in dressing up our entry ways to town. Just craptacular.

The Miss USA pageant controversy...

Give me a break people. I had barely heard of Perez Hilton before this ridiculous outcry. He asked this brave contestant, Carrie Prejean, a politically tough bomb of a question. He doesn't agree with her opinion and he bashes her on his blog calling her a "dumb B##ch. At least this girl, of whom I agree with, gave an honest and open answer not full of political correctness. Damn that's refreshing. What's even more amazing is that this is all considered controversial and that she may have lost the competition because of her answer. FOUR STATES have legalized gay marriage. THAT IS 4 out of 50. Even more compelling is that she represents California which is considered one of the more liberal states in America. Even her home state just voted down gay marriage. SO WHAT IN THE HELL IS CONTROVERSIAL?????? She is in the majority, NOT MINORITY! This Perez Hilton clown is a fool. Check it out and listen to the applause she receives after her answer. She is my new hero by not giving into political correctness and it's pressure and actually being one of very few contestants (if any) to actually speak her mind....BRAVO!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OY-1cybT6p8&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Edailymail%2Eco%2Euk%2Fnews%2Fworldnews%2Farticle%2D1172123%2FGod%2Dtesting%2Dfaith%2Dsays%2DMiss%2DCalifornia%2DPerez%2DHilton%2Dcalls%2Ddumb%2Dbitch&feature=player_embedded
